Roald Dahl

Discovering Roald Dahl’s worlds as a young reader was an impactful personal experience. His stories ignite imagination and spark joy, yet evoke dark and ominous imagery. As a designer, I am attracted to this mismatch of themes and intended target audiences.
The BFG follows Sophie, an orphan, who is captured by the Big Friendly Giant and helps him face the children eating giants he is trying to stop.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’s main character Charlie is chosen to visit Willy Wonka’s factory where he watches other children disappear throughout the tour.
In The Witches, a boy is turned into a mouse by fire-breathing witches as he stops them from killing all the children in England.
Dahl’s narratives are a staple of childhood literature, despite the dark themes conveyed in his pieces.
